Gold Rush goes on summer hiatus
Yes, you'll have to go somewhere else for breakfast for the next couple of weeks. The East Dallas institution, famed in song and story and helmed by the always affable George Sanchez (who puts up not only with the Gold Rush regulars, but with Jim Schutze and me), is taking its annual summer vacation. This means you'll see a lot of cars with younger people pull up around 9:30 on weekend mornings, see the place is closed, and then drive off.
When the restaurant reopens the first week of August, George reports that it will have a Wi-Fi connection, just like Starbucks. I am still pondering the cultual significance of this, though George says it is being added at the request of numerous customers.

You can post Backtalk from your breakfast perch. Sounds ideal.

Hey, if we're blogging, it seems to be a natural development for the Gold Rush to have Wifi. Besides, I think Wifi could easily be described as yesterday's technology (kinda like me). I had trouble finding Wifi in the UK only to discover the apparent reason was that everyone there was on data cards. No point in limiting oneself to coffee shops, pubs and airports. When the prices get that low here, so will we. Just as so many of our kids now have their own cell phone, soon most of our laptops will also.
