Hi Christina,

Thank you for an excellent summary of the ill-effects of light pollution. One of the things we try to make everyone understand is that being dark sky friendly does not mean dark ground. There are no official studies showing a coorelation between lighting and crime, one way or the other. As you said, using common sense when designing a lighting plan is doable. Lights should be fully shielded allowing no light above the 90 degree angle. Use sensors and dimmers to lessen the energy use when no one is around. Use a lesser wattage lamp to decrease harsh shadows which are unsafe and allow the eyes to adjust faster. Keep up the good work Christine.
