Does anyone remember 1991? That is the rainiest year on record, and we're almost on track to send that mark packing.
We had 53.54 inches in 1991 (which I don't remember at all), about 2 1/2 inches more than 1932, the previous rainiest year. So far this year, we have had 35.23 inches. This means that if we get 18 inches in the final six months -- not all that difficult considering that the average for the last six months is around 16 inches -- everyone will be able to tell their grandchildren about the record-setting rain in ought seven. If we do get 50 inches, it will be just the fifth time since the weather service started keeping records in 1898.
We've also received a couple of record rain-related memories on Back Talk. Check them out here.
Update (and I promise to stop doing this since I really do have work to do): We had 1.11 inches officially on Thursday, which means we are at the July average after five days and only 17 inches away from the annual record.
Yikes. It should be noted that this story was posted at 7:21 this morning, and it's been raining pretty hard all morning.
Isn't the average annual rainfall for Dallas something like 33.5 inches? So we hit that in the first six months?!!

One thing I've not seen mentioned is what all this weather is doing to our heads. Changes in the barometric pressure sometimes give me migraine. Last weekend was dreadful. I've talked to people who never get headaches who have been experiencing them now as well.
