Let us also remember that this was a time when tv news actually mattered and the local anchors took their cues from the likes of Walter Cronkite and Howard K. Smith who's national newscasts immediately preceded their own. Now it appears local tv news takes their cues from Phil Donahue.

It's funny, but Sunday I was relating to my wife (who did not grow up here) how big a deal it was for us to see Bob Gooding once at the next table at the Zeider Zee restaurant.

What are you talking about Norman? If only they took their cues from Phil Donahue! They're well past drawing inspiration from him.
