Looks like it will be a perfect night for the Friends of Tietze Park Foundation's first outdoor movie night, featuring a free sunset showing of the original Raiders of the Lost Ark movie. Bands Sibling Rivalry and Modern Relic will be playing beginning at about 6:30 p.m., and plenty of low-cost hot dogs, popcorn and water/soft drinks will be available for purchase (you can also bring your own picnic). Metro Paws will be sponsoring water and dog treats, as well as microchipping ($20 per pet) onsite, and some of the other sponsors also will be manning booths. The movie should begin around 9 p.m.; bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
Tietze Park is located on Skillman, between Vanderbilt and Llano avenues.
The event is sponsored by Lakewood Orthodontics and Keller Williams Realty, with additional promotional assistance from Brennan Financial Services, Republic Title, State Rep. Allen Vaught, State Rep. Dan Branch, Friends of Santa Fe Trail, Gracehill Community, Metro Paws, Bill Keffer for State Representative, Studio Movie Grill, Skillman Church of Christ and Advocate Magazines.
This sounds like a great event. Too bad it is the same night and time as the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. I guess I should have called my satellite provider and pay for DVR. Maybe next time.
Is this movie event something that occurs regularly? This is the first I have heard of it.

Yeah, the date is unfortunate. I'll try to come out, sounds like fun. You can catch the action after by going to http://www.NBCOlympics.com/video. The only thing here is that you would have to download MS Silverlight to view it. It's Microsoft's answer to Flash, and I don't think anyone else uses it except the Olympics (wonder how much they payed for that honor?) Anyways, hold your nose, close your eyes and download the plugin and you will get all of the Olympic action and more anywhere you have a high speed internet connection.
By the way, you can also set some notifications of local stars. Enjoy.

Actually, this is our first try at an outdoor movie night. And we checked lots and lots of potential dates (earlier in the summer, later after school starts), but there was a conflict with just about everything. So we thought we would give it a try on this date, were fortunate enough to line up some neighborhood sponsors willing to back the idea, and we'll see how things go. Hopefully, we'll learn some things to build on for next time. Hope to see you there! (I'm lucky enough to have DISH DVR, so I'll be able to go home and still see some of the opening ceremonies.)

Kuddos! It was a great time. The bands were entertaining, the food was a bargain and quite tasty! We missed the movie :-(
Kids petered out before the movie started. How did that turn out? The blow up screen looked great.
Thanks for doing this. It was a great idea.

These are not official numbers, but it appeared to me that about 400 people attended the event and about 200 or so stayed around for the movie, which looked extremely sharp on the monster blow-up screen set up at the park specifically for the event. In talking with a few of the sponsors and organizers during the event, we started looking at ways to improve the movie night for next year. For those of you who attended (and those who didn't), let us know if you have any ideas to throw into the hopper. Unofficially, it looks like we raised about $2,000 for the Friends of Tietze Park and the Advocate Foundation.

$2000, that's pretty good. I was worried that you wouldn't break even selling those great burgers for a buck. That was good meat, there is no way it was donated.

Actually, some of it was donated (by Rudolph's - thanks Rudolph's) - the rest was purchased by Skillman Church as a donation to the event (thanks Skillman!)
yes, $1 for a Rudolph's burger or hotdog WAS a deal!

I am so sorry to find out about this today, Aug. 13th. You aren't going to have another one until next year?? (Hear that WHINE?) How about a fall night out? Well, I'll be checking the website now that I know about you guys. I live in the neighborhood and 50+ years ago had almost all my birthday parties there. June 15th, what a great date. How can you volunteer?
