I heard a rumor that the Lombardi family — as in Penne Pomodoro, Toulouse, La Cubanita, Sangria —had leased the former Kitchen 1924 space in Lakewood Shopping Center.
And we all know rumors —while sometimes vile fabrications—more often than not have a traceable source. I checked into it. Lombardi Family Concepts spokesperson Bill Armstrong says, “we did look at the space but nothing has been decided.”
We’ll keep you posted. (Meanwhile, let us — and them if they are reading — know what you think of the idea.)
Sounds like a great idea. The Lombardi group likely would offer an enjoyable restaurant for the area. I certainly hope the space does not stay empty for long.

I too would love to see something in there, and would likely frequent any place that went in there with quality food. I'll admit, I have a preferrence for anything EXCEPT Italian - since Scalini's and Angelo's are both right there. My personal choice (as my kids would LOVE IT) - Purple Cow!

A very good company. If true, I just hope their concept doesn't compete or overlap with Angelo's and Scalini's.

I agree with the above comments --- we desperately need a new, casually upscale restaurant choice (Lombardi knows this genre well), but hopefully not Italian. Something like Toulouse would be fantastic! He now lives in the neighborhood, so I hope he has personally experienced the void we have in our dining scene and will turn this rumor into reality.
